The Practical Guide

Prep, Rinse & Aftercare

Save this page. It is the quick reference for what to do before your appointment, while your color develops, and after your first rinse.

Before Your Appointment

  • 24–48 hours before: Exfoliate thoroughly. Focus on dry areas such as elbows, knees, and ankles.
  • Complete beauty services such as manicures or pedicures before the appointment.
  • Complete shaving or waxing before the appointment.

Appointment Day

  • Shower at least 4 hours before.
  • Arrive with clean, bare skin.
  • No lotion, oil, deodorant, perfume, or makeup.
  • Wear loose, dark clothing and open-toed shoes.

While Your Tan Develops

  • Avoid contact with water or sweat.
  • Do not touch your skin.
  • Rinse only at the exact time Sarah gives you.

Your First Rinse

  1. Use lukewarm water only.
  2. No soap and no scrubbing during the first rinse.
  3. Rinse until the water runs clear.
  4. Your tan continues to develop for up to 24 hours after the appointment.

Maintaining Your Tan

  • Moisturize twice daily with tan-safe products.
  • Avoid long hot showers, baths, and swimming because they can speed fading.
  • Pat skin dry; never rub.
  • Wear sunscreen. A spray tan does not provide SPF protection.
